Concerts

A varied concert season from Brass to Choir attracts many visitors to the church.  See the calendar for our next concert.

St Nicholas School

St Nicholas School year 2—Baptism lesson. There is a close link between the church and the church school of St Nicholas. It is probably one of the few schools in which the Eucharist is celebrated.

Baptism and Weddings

Baptisms and weddings are always a joy. The church hopes that children will be baptized within the Eucharist service so that everyone can share in that joy.

Cleaning and flower arranging

A dedicated band of men and ladies meet every two weeks to clean the brass and arrange the flowers.

MONDAY CLUB for the retired of whatever age.

Every second Monday of the month AFTERNOON TEA and HOME MADE CAKES are provided free in the Narthex [social area] of the Church for the retired of the local community. Along with sparkling conversation, the chance to make new friends , share old memories there is a book exchange which is completely free. The direction of the club is determined by those who go, so anything could happen!

What growth! 25 people turned up in September 2007 and most of them did not know each other—but they did by the end of the afternoon.  36 people turned up in November—why stay at home! 47 people turned up in December.  In 2010, we now have a membership list of 90 people from the community—will you help us to reach 100?

We now have a full programme of activities and events including trips to places of interest.  The club is for the community and has an increasing male membership.  Many members do not belong to any church at all such is it's appeal.

MONDAY FILM CLUB

This meets on the fourth Monday of every month to show full length feature films under CCLS license.  There is no charge and it is open to anyone who is retired and or lonely, of any age.  There is a tea break half way through for sparkling conversation and laughter.

 BELL RINGING for everyone.

Bell Ringers 2010Every Wednesday at 7.30pm the Bell Ringers practice ringing the bells. Not all the ringers are church goers, but are members of the community who welcome the friendship that bell ringing affords. They are very willing to give free lessons to anyone who would like to learn to ring and to join what must be one of the happiest bands of people in the community. There is no age limit—indeed it is a novel way to keep fit and to slim that tummy at no cost. Just turn up on the night to receive a warm welcome.

 FLOWER ARRANGING for everyone.

We are so lucky that JANE GILES has started a Flower Class in the church. She is a professional and an award winner for her arrangements. The group is open to anyone from novice to expert and meets every Monday from 7.00pm. in the Narthex of the Church. Refreshments are provided and there is a charge to help pay for the flowers.

 SINGING CLASSES for everyone.

It is so good to have members of the congregation offering their talents to the Glory of God. JANET LANCASTER is a professional singer in our choir, who has started to run singing classes in church. She has a high reputation as a singer and her pupils love her to bits. Group classes and ONE TO ONE tuition are available 5 days a week, usually in the evenings at the church. There is a charge from which the church benefits, but it is so reasonable that it is no wonder that she is never short of pupils. Learn to sing or improve your singing—either way it is worth contacting Janet on Telephone: 01706 076508 or through the Vicar.

G SQUAD youth group for everyone of secondary school age.

Don’t blame the Vicar for the name but it is what the young people chose to call themselves when this group was founded in 2007. Since then it has grown to become a youth group for the community with over 20 regular members. It meets twice a month, usually on a Thursday or Saturday and enjoy a variety of activities organised by our Youth Leader—Karen Edwards. Karen volunteered some time ago to attend a year long Youth Course provided by the Diocese to qualify as a youth Leader. As with most things at St Nicholas there is no charge to attend and it is amazing that despite this we never seem to be short of money! Please see the calendar for times and events or contact Karen through the Vicar.
