The Bruges Madonna.

The sculpture was a gift from Miss K A Watson of Rawtenstall in 1975. The Original by Michelangelo, Italian Renaissance sculptor, is in the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Bruges, Belgium where it is known as the Bruges Madonna. ca. 1501-1504 [see pictures below]

An exact plaster copy was found, according to a press report at the time, in a disused room at Blackburn Technical College.  It is thought that the copy was made by an Italian firm in London early in the 20th. Century.  I am still not too sure how Miss Watson came to have it and how the college acquired it in the first place and what the link is between Miss Watson and St Nicholas Church.  If anyone can throw some light on this, please e mail the Vicar.
